Scholarships and Financial Aid Available for Radiology Students

You can get your radiology degree in as little as two years, and online programs are making school more and more affordable for students. However, tuition can still be steep, and if you’re on a budget, you may not think school is in the cards for you at this time. That doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, with the help of financial aid, like scholarships and grants, you could actually go to school for free.

Types of Financial Aid

Aside from students loans, which are great but do have to be repaid when you graduate, there are two main types of financial aid for radiology students: scholarships and grants. The main different is that scholarships are typically given to students who show merit of some sort while grants are typically give to students who show financial need. In both cases, there may be other qualifiers as well, such as minority status, gender, and religion. In addition, if you’re already working in the healthcare field, you might qualify for a special type of financial aid through your employer. Usually called tuition assistance or reimbursement, if you commit to working with your employer for a specified number  of years when you graduate, they will pay for you to get your advanced degree.

Qualifying for Financial Aid

Most scholarships and grants require you to show proof that you’ve been accepted into an accredited radiology school before you apply. Other qualifiers are determined by the funds themselves. For many scholarships, you have to write an essay to be considered as a candidate, while many grants require you to show proof of your financial status.

Financial Aid for Radiology Students

If you’re ready to start applying for financial aid so you can get your radiology degree, here are a few places where you can start your scholarships and grant search:

  • American Society of Radiologic Technologists
  • Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologists

Don’t overlook opportunities in your own community too. Many offer scholarships and grants available for students in any field, including radiology. In addition, the large source of financial aid is often the college itself. Your school likely offers large scholarships and grants, so check with the department of financial aid to see if you qualify.
